Victorious (Annie/Finnick)

Wow, okay. To say I took a hiatus from the fanfic community is putting it lightly. All I can say is, life is hard, and nobody gets out of it alive. Now that you've all gotten that reminder, here's a fantastic complete fic rec that should tickle your toes!

And by tickle your toes, I mean actually, this is a 'mature' rated story and you should take that into account because the author means business.

Recommendation: Why recommend a story that deals so openly with harsh topics? Why read a story that deals with the worst kind of terribleness? Why anything? Because sometimes, authors just do it right. They make you think, they make you consider how it's quite possibly one step away for a government to take the next step, and they make you realize that it isn't just fantasy - history has likely already experienced this in one way or another.  Which is a pretty terrifying thing to realize.

Quite honestly, THG fandom has a thread that can run very dark. This isn't because all us fanfic authors are warped and cruel - it's because the content is there and we've simply extrapolated it. Sabaceanbabe has done an amazing job giving due skill to the content that she tackles. She's taken the little inklings of story bits that Collins left untouched (to likely keep it in the YA category) and turned it into a full blown tale on the harsh lives of Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta. The characters here are amazing, resiliant, and telling of something more than just background filler. She's breathed a tragic history into something that now seems tangible and real.
