Little Miss Mionie's Recs: Humorous Fanfiction?

Little Miss Mionie's Recs:
Humorous Fanfiction?

I thought it would be a good idea to start this post with why I decided to do this post.

Like many other fans, my love for this fandom knows no bounds.

And like many other fans, I enjoy having a little gigglesnort at my favourite things - I think the success of the infamous for Harry Potter and The Hot Boys Who Jump From Trees for the HP fandom certainty shows this.

So, after listening to "Hunger Games! I Wanna Go" by WinterSpringPro for the billionth time on my ipod, I decided to do a post listing some awesome Hunger Games Parodies. I searched a while, through many sites...and, well, I could only find a couple that were worth mentioning. I'll be honest, I was looking for a satirical kinda parody, where someone comments on the political and social stuff in the books, but I guess we'll have to wait for the movie parodies to do that.

I know everyone's humour is different, so if there's a funny fic I haven't recc'd (and since I've only done two, I'm sure there's squillions) and you're like o_O LMM WHY HAVENTCHOORECCEDZIS?, leave a comment and I'll add it here :)

(The rest of this post is under the cut because once I added the fanfics suggested by you, this post got a little long!)

Peeta Mellark Ruined My Life by Geeky_DMHG_Fan
Madge/Gale. Set about three to four years after Catching Fire. In District 13 Above. Told from Gale's POV. Mild Katniss/Peeta and Rory/Prim.
Status: Complete
Verdict: This is kinda weird, but I really like the fact that Peeta Mellark Ruined My Life is a ficlet - it's only four chapters in length. Geeky_DMHG_Fan's subtle humour is really well done - just moving from the first chapter to the second made me laugh! One of the high points is that the spelling, grammar, and characterisation - even the incorporation of Gale/Madge - are all perfect, so you can seamlessly read this fic. I really do feel for Gale after reading this - he's right, Peeta is too perfect, haha! It's a great, funny little story that will have you awwwww'ing when you review.

Excerpt:

"Hey." I hold out my hand to her and she falls into my chest, hiding her face in my shirt.
After a few minutes, she looks up at me. "Thanks for putting this up for me."
"Well, I did promise." I decide not to point out that the promise was extracted from me under extreme duress. If she had wanted, I would have promised to go to work in a dress.
Madge wraps her arms around my waist, and squeezes me a bit painfully. "Yeah, right before weswept the floors."
I laugh, burying my nose in her hair. "Technically, we did."
Madge pinches me. "That was not funny."
"Sure it was." Moving her hair to the side, I kiss her on the shoulder. Perhaps now would be the time to take up my mom's suggestion of giving her a backrub. Or better yet, helping her with her chores?
"How would you feel about us sweeping the closet floors again?"
Madge groans and pulls away from me, patting me on the cheek. "And you were doing so well."
She tries to walk away, but I don't let go. My stubbornness, while not always appreciated, is one of my best qualities. "Madge…"
"You really want to help me sweep the floors?"
See what I mean? It pays to be stubborn.
"More than anything."
Madge stands up on her tiptoes, and I incline my head when she curls her finger towards me. This is going to be good.
"Then you won't mind sweeping up the drywall mess you just made in the hallway?"
Uh…
She gives me a quick peck on the cheek. "Thanks, love. The broom and pan are in the hallway closet."

The Best Week Ever! by JLW
A trip from the Capitol to the 74th hunger games arena. Set before Catching fire.
Verdict: Holy Mockingjays, this is such a laugh-out-loud, well-done and accurate depiction of Capitol people. JLW does a wonderful job to not overdoing the OCs, and incorporates some great iconic things about the Games that we saw as horrific, or inhumane - but that Capitol people saw as entertainment. There was one line that struck me - "I didn't really like it that there were two victors; I was looking forward to the final fight." The Best Week Ever! presents a humorous, and even somewhat confronting, look at what reality TV does to people.

Excerpt:

Glow and I made our way from the television room and down the corridor towards our room. The walls were filled with stills from the games: and overhead picture of the arena, the red headed, sly girl peering through the leaves, her face caked in mud, there was a picture of Peeta disguised under the mud and sticks, looking almost invisible. The picture by my door was of Katniss holding onto Rue, a spear protruding from her stomach, that clip got thousands of viewings online, it was a beautiful moment. I shake the thoughts from my mind and throw a grin back in Glow's general direction before pushing the door open.

I gasped in surprise, the room wasn't disgusting and muddy as I had been expecting. The bedroom and bathroom were of the best quality. There were lots of pictures of District 11 and its victors; there weren't many I had to admit. The walls were painted with a golden straw kind of colour; it shone under the light from the coloured bulbs embedded in the ceiling. The beds were made of something that looked like straw but it was very soft to the touch. I knew I was going to like staying here.

"Hey look! I think I found the timetable for this week!" Glow's voice rang out and I skipped to his side happily and looked down at the paper in his hand, it read:

Monday:
General exploration of the arena 9:00am – 5:30pm
Tuesday:
Tour around the Cornucopia. Re-enactment of the bloodbath 9:00am – 5:30pm
Wednesday:
Sponsors and Mentors, their story 9:00am – 5:30pm
Thursday:
Final 8, interviews and tour around the death sites.
Friday:
Peeta and Katniss, love story from the beginning 9:00am – 5:30pm
Saturday:
Cato and Thresh plus re-enactment of battle 9:00am – 5:30pm
Sunday:
Victor's battle plus re-enactment 9:00am – 5:30pm
I turned to Glow, smile plastered onto my face, "This is going to be the best week ever!"

Our awesome Aimmyarrowshigh suggested Peeta Mellark's Very Awkward Stag Party by puella_nerdii

I sense an awkward-Peeta-situations theme running here.
Now, you should all go and lol yourself silly.
