"It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed." -Fahrenheit 451. Be it ashes or candles, Cinna and Portia have an unhealthy obsession with fire that just might save the world.
Burning Bright is a wonderfully written one-shot. It's short, and although it's written in third-person, Amata Le Fay provides a great insight into the characterisations of Cinna and Portia. This fic is divided into four parts, with the intertexual inclusion of Farenheit 451 at the conclusion - which brings on great imagery of fire and burning while alluding to another literary oppressive government.
I feel like she really breathes life into these charas in a considerably small amount of prose, which is awesome to see. In Burning Bright, there is an atmosphere of rebellion about these two characters that we didn't necessarily get to truly see or play out in canon. This author also cleverly weaves in events from Catching Fire and Mockingjay through subtle descriptions in Burning Bright. A wonderful example of this is in the penultimate section:
They beat them until they're bloody wrecks and then drag them into a cell and leave them there to die. Of course they're going to die. But it's not like either of them thought they were going to survive this war, anyways.
Cinna manages to muster one last glance at Portia, determination and obsession still flaring in his eyes. We are still here. We're still smoldering.
Love Cinna? Love Portia? Love a good rebellion against the Capitol? You'll adore this little o/s.
