Hiya. Today, I'm reccing Younger Revolutions by falseeyelashes, a Johanna/Finnick one-shot.
Summary: they say: the winners write the history to be read; panem has been witness to other lovers.
This is one long-ass o/s, but a really rocking one at that. It's told by an omnisicent narrator with a bias towards Johanna's hard, unforgiving tone; it's a reflection on hidden moments between Johanna and Finnick during their lives, in particular the Quarter Quell and the events of Mockingjay.
I love the angsty sexual tension between Johanna and Finnick, and that falseeyelashes has gone for portraying these two as in a gritty relationship, and not trying to fool us into a mushy romance. Younger Revolutions doesn't do a disservice to Finnick/Annie shippers, either. Falseyelashes' characterisation and writing style is compelling and in character. I enjoyed the hollow truth of this fic; it's an absorbing read:
"Oh, please know this: in the real world there is no poetic justice. Closure eludes us. The dead do not cast messages received by the living and the in tune. The closest this world will offer is irony, a small twist of the metaphorical blade, but even this element is absent here."
Happy reading,
~ Little Miss Mionie

Self-Promotion Sundays #6
Hey folks, cindella204 again with Self-Promotion Sundays (on Tuesday). Sorry for the delay, last Sunday I was at Kruger National Park in South Africa where they apparently have no wifi (No wifi at a major tourist attraction? Seriously?). So yeah, it's on Tuesday. Whatever. Anyway, this week's stories:
Waiting for forever and a day
by donargh
Summary: What was in the unknown sections of the Quell arena? It’s the morning after that kiss. Plans are being established to kill Enobaria and Brutus. However, the victors are forced to take flight in one of the unknown areas of the arena. What horrors have the Game makers conjured up that could possibly harm one of the victors?
Status: In-Progress
We Remember: The Other Everdeen Girl
by Miss M of Q
Summary: One-shot. In celebration of the first 25 years since the Fall of the Capitol, Caesar Flickerman writes about the unsung heroes of Panem in his post-war newspaper column, We Remember. In this article, he pays tribute to Primrose Everdeen, the Mockingjay's sister.
Status: Complete
That's all for this time! Enjoy!

The Bun is Really in the Oven - Cherrypit8 Request
In any fandom, there always seems to be that one nagging 'What If' moment that seems to latch onto any and all reader's and fanfiction writer's minds. In THG fandom, we've got a lot of them. For example, we've got the 'post-Mockingjay epilogue fill in'; we've got the 'Prim in the Games'; and we've got the 'nobody dies', to name a few.
All of these 'What If' moments have a plethora of stories that are magnificent, practical, and filled with detail that we, as reader's, felt were moments of particular interest.
So when Cherrypit8 came to us at Nightlock and asked, "What about the 'Katniss is really pregnant fics' like KaKaVegeGurl's?" - we thought, huh, now there's a 'What If' that's hard to track down.
With that in mind, we went on a mission: Find the Katniss-is-knocked-up stories that give depth, quality and justice to a storyline that can be a pretty difficult one to write simply because, well...
Hormones. Characters change with hormones, okay?
Now, I'm not saying this mission was easy. There's a lot of fic-diving going on when you're looking for a particular story angle. We trudged through a few difficult-to-read stories and by no means should this list be considered the final word (*cough* We are open to suggestions!)
Without further ado, here's some completed "Katniss is really pregnant" stories, just for you Cherrypit8:
One Line Rec: Taking a spin on the Gale train, this fic takes the 'What If' and turns it around a bit, leading the reader down a pretty heartbreaking road.
One Line Rec: Though I'm not a fan of the formatting (warning, italics in use), this story has a pretty decent plot to follow, using Peeta's brother as a significant character to add depth and a creative twist to the general idea.
One Line Rec: A good story with solid follow-through, it's still a work in progress so we'll have to wait to see how it ends.
One Line Rec: This story takes a variety of POV's and uses them to provide a full-circle telling of a pretty tragic event that spans not just the Quell but into the Epilogue as well.
Hope you enjoy these and please, let us know if you have any others you'd like to add to the list!
Much love, Polkapop
Post-script: I'll do my best to link up any recs I give with AO3 or other sources due to the crackdown on M rated fics over at ff.net, just an fyi. I could only locate It Isn't a Trick on AO3, please let me know if any others are cross-posted.

The Way It Is (Glimmer/Cato) and Twirl for Me, Fly for Me (Cinna/Portia)
Hello, all. This week I'm bringing two new fics into the spotlight:Title: The Way It Is
Author: The Silver Panda
Summary: A Little one-shot I wrote for the Starvation Forum Monthly Challenge. From Glimmer's POV.
and
Title: Twirl for Me, Fly for Me
Author: Serenity9419
Summary: "He was too hard to read. Too damn noble, she often thought. But she cared for him, or she wouldn't have bothered to try." Though sometimes unseen, Cinna and Portia took their own journey together - they risked, they loved, and they lost.
My Recommendation:
The theme of this post, inside my mind, is characters part of a pairing I've recc'd before, but different. "The Way It Is" fits this perfectly: Glimmer's point of view, being envious of Clove because of her relationship with Cato. The prompt this was written for was "envy", and it does a wonderfully tragic job of doing this. It's real, and you feel it all--the, well, envy; the love; and yet, the sort of bloodthirsty side to almost every Career. It packs a lot of power to affect you in a short piece. All the while, from the books, you know what happens, and the characters seem to know this to a certain extent too: only one of them, no matter what happens, can live. (At least, at the point this particular fic ends.) "The Way It Is" is a beautiful and tragic new perspective.
Next, we have "Twirl for Me, Fly for Me" (Cinna/Portia). Almost anyone who knows me can say that this is one of my favorite pairings, and this one fic is almost 100% of the reason why. If I had to pick a favorite part of this story, it would be the writing itself--a wonderful, poetic style that adds to the tragicness of it all. The romance is real--the author doesn't even need to state it, you can just feel that it's there, even in a different scene. While some parts of the story can be a bit heavy and depressing, (as it's also an angst fic), (and I cried the first million times I read it), there are also parts that are a bit more fluffy and light-hearted (and I still laugh now). Powerful writing, definitely recommended.
That's it for this week--see you next time!
