This week's fan's fic rec comes from the super cool feeding-geese!

Title: A House United

Summary: The bloody Civil War is over, but the battle is far from won.  As North occupies South, Katniss Everdeen tries to keep her plantation home afloat, now empty except for herself, her mother, and her sister Prim.  When Union soldier Peeta Mellark is quartered at the Everdeen home, she struggles to put up with the intruder as best she can.  It doesn't help that he's so helpful, so kind, and possesses no small amount of charm.
Why do you love this fic? "Beginning with the one-shot Blue on Grey, this historical fic is lovingly written and meticulously researched and knows how to leave a reader longing for more!  The author's use of foreshadowing and dramatic tension speak to her well-honed writing talents. She gives plenty of attention to the romance, but explores how their love plays out in this very tense setting.

As in The Hunger Games, in A House United, love is the ultimate rebellion.  At the same time, she does not write as though a Southerner never fell in love with a Northerner before.  She sets up the social taboos and dangers of the time in such a way that the reader does not have to be an American History major to understand the motives behind their secrecy.

She crafts each character's voice using the source material combined with the cultural upbringings of the American 19th century.  Katniss is still Katniss, yet her concerns are driven by what she has witnessed in her life as well as the social teachings she has undergone.  Instead of fearing the reaping ball, she fears exile.  

It's a beautifully crafted series well-deserving attention."
